I Need Help

For years now, the Mozilla community has been making a browser that makes the Web better. Now we're reaching out, reaching further – we want to make things better in your local community, and for other public benefit organizations. We believe the Internet can be used to enrich people's lives, and to make a difference to you and your organization.

We are taking action this week. Tell us how we can help…

How Can You Benefit?

During this week - September 14-21, 2009, together with hundreds of volunteers, we are making serious differences to local communities around the world. And its not too late to also ask for help. If you are part of an organization, library, school, community center, church, or sports group or even just an individual in need of some technical help, the talented and tech-savvy community of Mozilla is here for you.

Here are just a few ideas of how we can help you or your organization:

  • Teach senior citizens how to use the Web.
  • Show a non-profit how to use social networking to grow its base of supporters.
  • Help install a wireless network at a school.
  • Create Web how-to materials for a library's computer cluster.
  • Refurbish hardware for a local computer center.
  • Update a non-profit organization's website.
  • Teach the values of the open Web to other public benefit organizations.

The Mozilla community has a history of changing the world – and the Web – in all kinds of amazing ways. Now we want to make a personal difference in your world, and help fellow public benefit organizations gain from the open web. Finding a Volunteer

You'd be surprised at how many people in your area would be willing to help if they knew what you needed, no matter how big or small your request. All you have to do is ask. Tell someone what you need.

For Organizations:

If you already have a need in mind, the best thing to do is work with our partner to find volunteers who can help. Through Idealist, you can register your organization and describe the technical help you are looking for. Volunteers who are looking for opportunities to help can then search Idealist and locate your organization.

We hope you will find a local volunteer, but if you are looking for advice or a tutorial, you may find someone miles away who can telephone, email or Skype you to provide the help you need.

Register with Idealist to request help.

If you already have a preferred volunteer site you'd like to use to list your need, that's great. You can also list your organization's request with our other partners.

See other MozService Week partners.

Don't forget: Once you've identified the project you'd like help with, please come back and tell us all about it and register your need.

For Individuals:

Perhaps you have been thinking of asking a friend, work colleague, or neighbor to help you with a technological need for some time. Now's your chance to ask!

Mention Mozilla Service Week to friends and colleagues at work, at school, at your community center, on your online social network, or even via Twitter. Ask them if they'd be willing to join Mozilla Service Week efforts by helping you.

Once you've identified a volunteer, come back and register your project – tell us what your friend is going to do to help you.

Don't forget to remind your volunteer that they can also challenge their friends to support you on http://www.pledgebank.com/.

You could also visit our partner Idealist and search to see if there are any volunteers in your area who might be able to help. Search Idealist volunteers
